Dr (Prof) Gokulnath is a distinguished and highly experienced nephrologist in Bangalore, with over 30 years of expertise in the field. His extensive knowledge encompasses nephrology and kidney transplantation. Prior to his current role at Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore, where he has been since 2014, he served as the Head of Nephrology at St John's Medical College for more than ten years.

Dr Gokulnath embarked on his medical journey by graduating from Mysore University in 1976. He pursued his postgraduate studies, earning an MD in medicine from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in 1982. He further honed his skills through super specialization at the esteemed CMC Vellore, where he obtained his DM and DNB qualifications.

His dedication to the field of nephrology is underscored by his distinguished accolades, including the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians London (FRCP) and the Fellowship of the Indian Society of Nephrology (FISN). He has actively contributed to national nephrology and transplantation decision-making bodies, serving as a member and chairing committees tasked with formulating guidelines for the treatment of chronic kidney disease in India.

Dr Gokulnath has held various leadership positions within professional nephrology organizations and has previously served as the president of both the Indian Society of Peritoneal Dialysis and the Indian Society of Nephrology-Southern Chapter. His passion for teaching is evident through his extensive experience as a post-graduate teacher and guide in nephrology, as well as his role as a post-graduate examiner at various medical institutions nationwide, including PGI Chandigarh, SGPGI Lucknow, Nizams Institute Hyderabad, and the National Board of Examinations.

His contributions to the field are exemplified by his authorship of 15 chapters in nephrology textbooks, the publication of 182 research papers, and the delivery of 152 guest lectures and six orations. Furthermore, he has played a pivotal role as the principal investigator in 12 clinical trials. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to nephrology, he received the Presidential Award from the President of India in 2000 during his service in the Indian Air Force. Dr Gokulnath has also been honoured with the prestigious 'Dhronacharya' Award for his pivotal role in training nephrologists across India.
