Your Table Salt Can Kill You!

A recent study revealed that adding salt to cooked meals increases your risk of premature death by 28%. A higher intake of common salt, made up of 97-99% sodium chloride, shoots up your blood pressure, which is harmful to your cardiovascular health. Moreover, lower consumption of sodium chloride has also been linked to increased mortality risk. The study revealed that the life expectancy of women was reduced by 1.5 years when they added common salt to their cooked food, while the life expectancy of men was reduced by 2.3 years. This number is in comparison to individuals who never or very rarely added salt to their cooked food. Therefore, it is advised to add salt to the food while cooking and avoid sprinkling extra salt later.
