I've recently had my gallbladder removed due to gallstones, and before the surgery, I was experiencing high levels of SGOT, SGPT, and bilirubin. An endoscopy confirmed the gallstones, leading to the surgery. Now, after the surgery, I've had three liver function tests over a 10-day period. While the SGOT and SGPT levels are back to normal, my bilirubin total is still around 2.3. Is this normal after having my gallbladder removed?

After gallbladder removal surgery, it is not uncommon for bilirubin levels to be slightly elevated. However, a total bilirubin level of around 2.3 may still be within the normal range depending on the reference values used by the laboratory. It is important to monitor your bilirubin levels closely and follow up with your healthcare provider for further evaluation if needed. In the meantime, you can consider taking medications like Ursodiol to help with bile flow and digestion post gallbladder removal.
