What is the procedure for urine cytology?

There are mainly two ways to obtain the cells needed for a urine cytology exam. Your doctor may collect a sample during a cystoscopy examination, or you can give a clean urine sample.

What procedure is done in the lab after giving sample?

The lab consists of pathologist who will analyse the cells under a microscope for abnormalities in the sample. They may also check for cells in a culture dish to see if bacteria or other organisms are present. The pathologist will directly send the test results to your doctor. You can speak to your doctor about how long you have to wait for test results.
