Question
I'm highly myopic and considering strabismus surgery but worried about pain and double vision afterward does the procedure hurt and how common are these risks for someone with severe nearsightedness?
Answered by 1 Apollo Doctors
Strabismus surgery generally involves minimal pain, with most patients experiencing mild discomfort that can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Double vision (diplopia) is a more common concern, but it's often temporary, with many experiencing a significant improvement within the first few weeks. While severe nearsightedness (high myopia) doesn't necessarily increase the risk of pain or double vision, it can be a factor in the success of the surgery and the need for post-operative adjustments, so it's important to discuss this with your surgeon
