Is a 2.5 cm thyroid nodule large?
Answered by 1 Apollo Doctors
Yes, every thyroid nodule larger than 1.0 to 1.5 cm (1/2 inch) in diameter as well as those with a suspicious goiter need to have a fine needle aspiration biopsy to obtain thyroid cells for cytologic evaluation.

A 2.5 cm thyroid nodule is generally considered moderately sized. Here's what you should know:
-
Size Context:
- Nodules smaller than 1 cm are usually small.
- Nodules larger than 2 cm often warrant further evaluation.
-
Clinical Significance:
- A 2.5 cm nodule is significant enough for additional tests like an ultrasound or biopsy.
-
Symptoms and Risk Factors:
- Size alone doesn't determine risk; growth rate, ultrasound features, and symptoms are also important.
-
Next Steps:
- Follow up with your healthcare provider for evaluation and management.
- Mention any symptoms like difficulty swallowing, voice changes, or neck discomfort to your doctor.
While 2.5 cm is on the larger side, many such nodules are benign and manageable with proper care.

I've been dealing with a pituitary macroadenoma for 10 years and have been on cabergoline 0.5 mg twice a week since 2016 to manage it. The tumor size hasn't reduced and has stayed the same for the last 3 years. I've been getting treatment at AIIMS since 2014 but really don't want to go for another transcranial surgery since I've already had two before. The meds or hormonal imbalance have also caused low libido and slower semen regeneration. I've tried Poona Hospital, SGPGI Lucknow, and now AIIMS but I'm exhausted from all the medications. Is there any way to remove this tumor completely without another major surgery? Currently taking Wysolone 2.5-5 mg on alternate days, Thyronorm 100 mg daily, and cabergoline 0.5 mg twice a week. What are my options now?

I've had man boobs since I was 18 and now I'm 22. At first I thought they'd go away on their own but they haven't, even with regular chest workouts. My nipples are puffy and an awkward shape which makes me think it's gynecomastia. I also have thyroid issues - could that be causing this? What's the best treatment option, medication or surgery?
It's possible you have gynecomastia, and your thyroid issues could be contributing. While it can be common for breast tissue to enlarge during puberty, if it persists into your early twenties, it's important to consult with a doctor. Your doctor can assess your specific situation, including your thyroid condition, and recommend the best course of treatment, which may include medication, liposuction, or surgery
