Hey, I had a question about Rabipur injections. So basically, I got 5 shots of it around 14 years ago. I'm wondering if I need to get a booster dose now, and if it's something that lasts for life. Also, how many doses are we usually supposed to get anyway? Appreciate any advice!

It provides immunity for 10yrs.But if you have doubts of exposure to dogs, then getting a booster is no harm.

  1. Overview of Rabipur and Rabies Immunoglobulin

    • Rabipur is a vaccine that helps prevent rabies by stimulating antibody production. Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) provides immediate passive immunity post-exposure.
  2. Typical Rabies Vaccination Schedule

    • Rabipur is given in multiple doses for post-exposure prophylaxis. RIG is administered once at the start of treatment.
  3. Duration of Immunity and Need for Booster

    • Immunity from Rabipur is not lifelong. Boosters are generally unnecessary unless there's a new exposure or high-risk situation.
  4. Recommendations for Your Situation

    • No routine booster is needed now since you received 5 doses 14 years ago with RIG. Seek medical evaluation if there's a new potential exposure.
  5. When to Consult a Healthcare Provider

    • Consult a doctor if you experience any new animal bites or exposures. Rabies requires prompt treatment after exposure.
  6. Summary and Reassurance

    • Your past vaccination and RIG were appropriate. No booster is needed unless new exposure occurs.

I've got some redness and pain on the spot where I had a Mantoux Test done about two days ago. The redness has spread to roughly 15 mm. Could this mean something I should be concerned about?

I recently had a brief encounter with a sex worker and made sure to use a condom, but now Im really anxious about the risk of getting HIV. Ive been reading up a lot online, and to be honest, it's making me pretty scared and down. The thing is, the encounter was really short, like about 2 minutes, and I didnt feel much. While removing the condom, I think I mightve done it wrong by pulling it from the base up. When I checked afterward, my penis was dry and there wasnt any noticeable liquid on my hands. Im worriedcould I still be at risk for HIV?

The risk of HIV transmission in this scenario is low, especially since you used a condom. However, to further reduce the risk, you can consider taking Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) within 72 hours of the exposure. PEP involves taking a combination of antiretroviral drugs for 28 days. I recommend you consult a healthcare provider for a proper assessment and prescription of PEP.
