I have irregular periods, and my blood report shows that my prolactin level is quite high. My gynecologist has prescribed tablets to help regulate my periods, but I am concerned about the elevated prolactin. Should this be treated separately, and what could be the reason for the high prolactin level?

High prolactin can disrupt ovulation even if periods are regularized. Common causes include stress, medications, or pituitary issues. Get a repeat serum prolactin and a Thyroid Profile (TSH, Free T4) to rule out thyroid or pituitary problems. Your gynecologist may consider MRI if levels stay elevated.

View allI have been advised by my gynecologist to get a thyroid profile test and a serum prolactin test because my periods are not regular. I have also undergone a scan, which came out normal. I want to know if alcohol consumption will be detected in these tests.

My TSH level in the recent report is 4.86. I would like to know if this means I have hypothyroidism. Also, should I go for a retest to confirm the result?
