I'm really concerned about this bruise on my face. A week ago, I fell and hit my cheekbone pretty hard. At first, it was just bruised there, but now the bruising has spread all around my eye, and my eyelids and part of my cheek are this purple-green color. The swelling has gone down quite a bit, but there's still some, and I have this lump on my cheekbone that just won't go away. Could it be a hematoma? What's the best way to take care of this bruise and lump?

Sorry to hear that!

Bruising and Swelling

  1. Normal progression: Bruising can spread and change colors as it heals.
  2. Swelling reduction: Significant reduction in swelling is a good sign.

Lump on Cheekbone

  1. Possible hematoma: A collection of blood that can cause a lump.
  2. Other possibilities: Fat necrosis, bone fracture, or soft tissue injury.

Care and Treatment

  1. Cold compresses: Continue applying cold compresses to reduce swelling.
  2. Elevation: Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling.
  3. Pain management: Use over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
  4. Monitor for infection: Watch for signs of infection, such as increased redness, warmth, or pus.
  5. Follow-up appointment: Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to assess the lump and bruising.

When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention

  1. Increased swelling or pain
  2. Vision changes or double vision
  3. Difficulty moving your eye or face
  4. Signs of infection

I've been bitten by an insect and the area is really itchy and red. There's no swelling, but the skin looks reddish and a bit blackish. I've been using T Bact ointment, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should be applying. Any advice on what ointments might help?

I've been having these relentless itches all over my body, day and night, and it's driving me crazy. There are these bubbles and rashes popping up everywhere, even on my head, and I'm really worried. Can you tell me what might be going on and how I can make this itching stop?

Could be indicative of an allergic reaction or dermatitis. I recommend taking an antihistamine such as Cetirizine (brand name Zyrtec) 10mg once daily to help relieve itching and rash symptoms. Additionally, applying a soothing lotion containing calamine or hydrocortisone to the affected areas can also provide relief. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to follow up with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and management.

I've got these two cuts behind my right ear that just won't heal and they've been there for nearly a year now. They ooze, scab over, and get really crusty. There's no rash, and they don't look like any eczema pictures I've found. I've tried prescribed creams but nothing helps. What could this be, and what should I do next?

Could be indicative of a condition called chronic otitis externa. In this case, I would recommend using a combination of an antibiotic and steroid ear drops to help with the inflammation and infection. You can try using Neomycin-Polymyxin B-Hydrocortisone ear drops twice a day for 7-10 days. Make sure to keep the area clean and dry, and avoid scratching or picking at the scabs to prevent further irritation. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it would be best to follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and management.
