I've been dealing with a dry cough for the past week and I'm starting to worry it might be because of my smoking habit. Is this kind of cough something I should be concerned about, or is it a common reaction for smokers? What should I do to ease the cough, and should I be thinking about quitting smoking entirely?

Im thinking about getting a PFT test because my doctor suggested it for peace of mind. A few months back, I was dealing with thick phlegm and sputum due to bronchitis, and my doctor prescribed some meds that got me back to normal. But just to be safe, I'm considering a PFT test and maybe a CT chest scan and lung scan. Are the CT chest scan and lung scan the same thing, or are they different? Also, what should I do to prepare for them? Any advice would be really helpful.
For the confirmation of diagnosis ct chest is advised to the patient.
