I've been dealing with this moderate acne issue for a while now because of my PCOS. I'm taking OCs and everything seemed to be under control, but now it's flaring up again. My doctor put me on Isotretinoin 10mg daily for a month and also suggested I use topical tretinoin 0.025mg once a day. Is it okay to use these two treatments together or should I be cautious about using them at the same time?

  1. Understanding Your Medications

    • Isotretinoin is an oral retinoid that reduces oil production and inflammation. Topical tretinoin helps with skin cell turnover. Both are effective for acne.
  2. Potential Risks of Using Both Together

    • Combining these can increase skin irritation, dryness, and sensitivity. Azelaic acid may also contribute to these effects.
  3. Precautions and Monitoring

    • Start with lower doses if possible. Use a gentle moisturizer and sunscreen. Monitor for side effects like severe dryness or irritation.
  4. Importance of Medical Supervision

    • Follow your dermatologist's advice closely. Report any severe side effects and attend regular follow-up visits.
  5. Additional Tips for Managing PCOS-Related Acne

    • Consider lifestyle changes, such as a balanced diet and regular exercise. Hormonal management may also be beneficial.

I'm dealing with this really itchy waist and groin area, and it's been going on for like 18 months now. I'm pretty sure my hygiene's top-notch, so I'm wondering if maybe I caught this from using public toilets? I've been to a few doctors alreadyone thought it was mites, another said it was a fungal thing, and the last suggested it might be bacterial. But none of their treatments have worked, and I'm still stuck with this problem. Do you have any idea what else this could be or what I should do next?

Probable diagnosis is fungal infection.

I got bit on my face by a Nairobi fly and I've tried different ointments, but it seems to be spreading instead of healing. I'm using Colgate now because it's helped others, but I'm really worried about this spreading further. Can you help me figure out what to do?

1. Stop using Colgate: While it may have worked for others, using toothpaste on skin can be irritating and dry out the skin, making the situation worse. 2. Clean the area: Wash the affected area with mild soap and lukewarm water to remove any bacteria or debris. 3. Apply a topical antibiotic ointment: Use a topical antibiotic ointment, such as Neosporin or Bacitracin, to help prevent infection and promote healing. 4. Use a hydrocortisone cream: Apply a hydrocortisone cream to reduce inflammation and itching. 5. Avoid scratching: Scratching can lead to further irritation, infection, and scarring. If the symptoms persist, worsen, seek medical attention
