I've been diagnosed with a diffuse posterior bulge at L5S1 disc and a medium-sized left paracentral protrusion that's pressing on my left nerve root, indenting the thecal sac, and affecting both neural foramina. My doctor is recommending surgery, but I really want to avoid it. Are there any other treatment options I can explore? What else could help with this kind of disc issue?

View allI'm a 38 year old with severe neck pain that's shooting down into my left hand my doctor suggested a steroid course starting with predmet 16mg and tapering off but mentioned surgery as the next step if that doesn't work does this sound like the right approach for my condition
Usually steroid course is given in carpal tunnel syndrome patients. First of all if ur symptoms r due to CTS ,then only it will work.it will be diagnosed based on nerve conduction studies done by trained neurologist.(surgery will be dobe for severe CTS ) If due to cervical spondylitic( needs mri c.spine ) radiculopathy, stetoids wont be of use . So better to be seen by neurologist and get evaluated properly.(surgery will be done in only severe compression
