I've been having this issue for the last few years where I can breathe just fine during the day, but when I'm sleeping, particularly in the early mornings, theres this sound from my chest and I struggle to breathe properly. I end up waking up and have to do some breathing exercises to feel normal again. Even though my lung function seems okay according to the doctors I've seen, this is really messing with my sleep, and I'm not sure what to do about it. Any advice?

  1. Possible Causes of Breathing Difficulties and Chest Sounds During Sleep

    • Consider upper airway issues, sleep apnea, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) as potential causes, even with normal lung function tests.
  2. Importance of Sleep Evaluation

    • A sleep study (polysomnography) can identify conditions like obstructive sleep apnea that might not appear in lung tests.
  3. Additional Diagnostic Considerations

    • Further evaluations such as ENT examination, cardiac evaluation, or reflux assessment may be beneficial.
  4. Lifestyle and Environmental Advice

    • Improve symptoms by adjusting sleep position, managing weight, avoiding alcohol or sedatives before bedtime, and addressing allergies or nasal congestion.
  5. When to Seek Specialist Care

    • Consult pulmonologists, sleep specialists, or ENT doctors for comprehensive assessment and personalized treatment.
  6. Possible Treatments

    • Depending on diagnosis, treatments may include CPAP therapy for sleep apnea, medications for reflux, or nasal sprays for congestion.

After smoking for 6 years, I've managed to quit and haven't touched a cigarette for the past 9 months. I'm really curious and a bit worried about whether the tar has cleared from my lungs by now. If it's still there, how long will it take to fully clear out? Do you think my lungs will ever be as healthy as they were before I started smoking?

yes it will become normal , it will almost take a year

My mom's been dealing with respiratory issues for the last 57 years and she was diagnosed with COPD, so shes been on treatment. She still uses an inhaler with a capsule whenever she feels breathless. Now, she wants to visit the chardham, specifically Badrinath and Kedarnath. Given the high altitude and extreme weather, I'm worried about how she'd cope. Do you think its safe for her to go on this trip?

its not advisory, but if want to go compulsorily, test her pulmonary function test and be ready for any emergencies

I'm having a really tough time with my breathing, and recently, I think it might be Phlegm-related. A while back, I had a lot of sugary stuff, and then I started having trouble with this wet cough and lots of Phlegm. My doctor suggested Asthalin AX syrup for this wet cough, and it helped some with the Phlegm. Also, I noticed when I stopped the sweets, the Phlegm kind of stopped too. But even now and then, I still feel like I'm not getting enough air. I've been on some antibiotics for an infection like the Symbiotik capsule, vycor forte tablet, Bethansol tablet, and Asthalin Ax Syrup. I'm really concerned if it's okay to take all these medicines to sort out the shortness of breath because of the Phlegm and the cough. I'm just looking for some advice on how to deal with the short breath due to this cough and Phlegm situation.
