I've been having this nerve compression in my spine that's causing pain and discomfort in my right leg. I understand medications might not fix it completely, but is surgery really the only solution for this kind of problem? Are there other options I should consider first?

View allI just got my MRI report showing lumbar spondylosis with an angular tear and disk protrusions at L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 levels. It's causing spinal canal narrowing, stenosis, and severe compression on the nerve roots with impingement at L4-L5. The doctor is recommending surgery, but I'm only 25 and unmarried is surgery really necessary at this stage? Are there other treatment options I can try first?
At 25, try conservative treatments first—physio, traction, and epidurals; surgery only if severe nerve deficit or no improvement.

My grandfather is 83 and had a fall in the bathroom that caused a blood clot in his brain. The doctors are recommending surgery, but I'm worried can surgery really fix this at his age? Is it safe for him to go through the procedure? Would really appreciate your advice.
Sorry to hear about situation. Age is not the only factor, surgery and outcome depends on his general health, state of his heart function. Please discuss with physician and neurosurgeon.

my 24-year-old sister needs brain surgery for a tumor and they want to do a biopsy first - is this to check if it's cancer? also what kind of long-term effects could the surgery have on someone her age?
Yes, a biopsy is often performed before or during brain tumor surgery to determine if the tumor is cancerous and what type it is. This helps doctors create a treatment plan. Potential long-term effects of brain tumor surgery can include memory loss, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, personality changes, and seizures.
