I've had a root canal treatment and a permanent filling done. I'm wondering if it's really necessary to get a crown put on top. Are there any negative consequences if I skip the capping? Also, how long can I keep this tooth healthy without the crown? It's been over a month since I had the filling.

View allI'm trying to figure out how much a root canal treatment is going to cost and how long the whole process will take. Also, what's the best material to choose for a replacement? I'm a bit overwhelmed and need some guidance.
The cost of Root Canal Treatment (RCT) can vary depending on the complexity of the case and the location of the tooth. The duration of the treatment usually takes 1 to 3 visits, with each visit lasting about 1 to 2 hours. As for the best replacement material to choose after RCT, the most commonly used material is gutta-percha. It is a biocompatible material that is inserted into the root canal space to seal it off after the infected pulp has been removed. Gutta-percha helps to prevent reinfection and provides stability to the tooth.

I'm a bit confused about whether I should see a dentist or a dental surgeon for a root canal. I have references for both a dentist and a dental surgeon and I'm not sure which one would be more suitable. Could you explain the differences between them and let me know who would be better for this procedure?
Dentist_: 1. A general dentist provides routine dental care, such as fillings, extractions, and cleanings. 2. They may also perform simple root canals. _Dental Surgeon_: 1. A dental surgeon, also known as an oral surgeon, specializes in surgical procedures of the mouth, face, and jaw. 2. They typically perform more complex surgeries, such as wisdom teeth extractions, dental implant placements, and complicated root canals. For a root canal, you can consult either a dentist or a dental surgeon. However, if your case is complex or requires specialized care, a dental surgeon might be a better option. Before making a decision: 1. Check qualifications and experience. 2. Ask about their approach to root canal procedures. 3. Check online reviews and ask for referrals.
