I've had a tongue ulcer for about three days now. It's on the lower right side and doesn't hurt much unless I touch it. I've been using zytee gel, but it hasn't helped yet and I'm starting to get worried. Could this be an early sign of oral cancer? I've also got some broken teeth and other dental issues. Any advice?

Accidental Ingestion of Cigarette Ash-Contaminated Water

Don't panic: The risks associated with ingesting small amounts of cigarette ash are relatively low.

Possible effects:

  1. Gastrointestinal upset: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach discomfort may occur due to the toxic substances present in cigarette ash.
  2. Nicotine absorption: Although unlikely, small amounts of nicotine might be absorbed into the bloodstream, potentially causing:
    • Headache
    • Dizziness
    • Nausea
    • Increased heart rate
  3. Chemical exposure: Cigarette ash contains various chemicals, including heavy metals and carcinogens. However, the amounts ingested are likely to be minimal.

Recommended actions:

  1. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help flush out your system.
  2. Monitor your health: Keep an eye on your symptoms and seek medical attention if you experience severe or persistent effects.
  3. Consider medical evaluation: If you're concerned or experience any severe symptoms, consult a doctor or visit an emergency room.

Precautions for the future:

  1. Avoid ingesting contaminated substances: Be more mindful of your surroundings and the substances you ingest.
  2. Keep toxic substances out of reach: Ensure that cigarette ash and other hazardous materials are disposed of properly and kept away from food and water.
