I've noticed these small dark spots covering the backside of my upper arms for quite a while now, and I'm really curious if it's something that can be treated or if it's just a birth defect. Could this be something serious?

The dark spots on the back of your upper arms could be due to various reasons. Here are a few possibilities:
Possible Causes
- Keratosis Pilaris (KP): A common skin condition causing small, dark spots due to keratin buildup.
- Follicular Melanosis: A harmless condition causing dark spots due to increased melanin in hair follicles.
- Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark spots resulting from inflammation or injury.
Treatment Options
- Topical Creams: Hydroquinone, retinoids, or vitamin C creams can help reduce dark spots.
- Chemical Peels: A dermatologist can perform chemical peels to exfoliate the skin and reduce dark spots.
- Microdermabrasion: A non-invasive exfoliating treatment that can help reduce dark spots.
Next Steps
- Consult a Dermatologist: Get a professional diagnosis to determine the cause of the dark spots.
- Discuss Treatment Options: Work with your dermatologist to find the best treatment plan for your condition.

View allI'm a bit worried because I used antibiotic cream on a fungal infection rash, and it seems like the rash only got worse. So now I'm wondering, if I use antifungal cream on a rash that's not painful, and it ends up getting worse, could it mean it's another type of infection? Or can antifungal cream make any type of infection worse, kind of like how the antibiotic cream did?
