My 3-year-old son was diagnosed with mild hydrocele with no hernia. The pediatrician referred us to a surgeon, and we have an appointment today. I wanted to know if surgery is the only option or if there are medications available too. Also, is it safe to wait a year or two until he's older for the surgery?

Usually 3 years is too late for conservative management. So most likely a survey will be required . However no medication are available to treat this condition

Avoid exercises that put strain on the surgical site, such as abdominal crunches, sit-ups, and exercises that involve heavy lifting or high impact
