My mother, age 59, had itching near the urinary area along with white discharge. She is on medication for sugar and blood pressure. We visited a gynecologist and she told us to do a NILM Pap smear test. The report says reactive changes observed associated with inflammation and atrophy. What does this mean? The gynecologist is on a one week leave. Is it anything to worry about?

Reactive changes with inflammation and atrophy on the NILM Pap smear means there is no cancer or serious issue. It indicates mild inflammation and thinning of the vaginal walls, which is common after menopause and with diabetes. This can cause itching and discharge but is manageable. Keep the area clean and dry, and maintain sugar control. Once your gynecologist is back, they may prescribe a local cream or treatment for the infection and dryness. You can book a urine routine and microscopy test if burning or increased frequency occurs.

Please sir, tell me if there is any problem in my urine test report? I observed smoothness in urine and sometimes irritation, so I went for a urine test.
