My mother, aged 52, was recently admitted to the hospital and received treatment for fever. The final diagnosis mentioned enteric fever and acute febrile illness. Her blood report shows a white blood cell count of 12,300 cells per cumm and a platelet count of 5.38 lakhs per cumm. I would like to understand what this could indicate. Is this a serious condition, and should we consult a hematologist?

The WBC count is mildly elevated, which can happen during infections like enteric fever. The platelet count is also slightly high (reactive thrombocytosis), which may occur due to inflammation or infection. This usually resolves after the infection is treated. It is not immediately serious and does not require a hematologist unless levels remain abnormal after recovery.
