My son is 5 years old and he had a congenital defect in the kidney since birth. Since a few days he has some inflammation which has caused swelling all over the body. His urine report shows that there is protein and blood in the urine. What does this mean and are there any further tests you suggest we should do?

Protein and blood in urine can signal inflammation or infection in kidneys. Since he has a kidney defect, please get detailed evaluation. Swelling may indicate nephrotic issues. Do not delay follow up with pediatric nephrologist.
