Post a Goa trip from 22nd to 27th June, I suffered from gas and acidity. Initially, my stool was formed but gassy and disintegrated in water. Within a week, the gassiness of stool increased along with belching and heartburn. I took a course of Metrogyl for 5 days as prescribed, but it did not help much. By now, the stool had become watery. On 17th July, I again visited the doctor who prescribed medicines for gas, acidity, and stomach ulcers. After this one week course, I started feeling acidity and gas along with belching, though less than in early July. As of today, 5th August, my stool is still pasty, narrow, and sometimes contains mucus. I am unable to clear my stomach completely and have to apply a lot of force to pass just a little pasty stool. There is always a feeling that stool is staying near my rectum. Gas and acidity are under control with banana, buttermilk, and easy to digest foods. Stool routine test is normal. What could this be?

Your symptoms suggest post infectious IBS or persistent gut inflammation. Clean stool test is reassuring, but mucus and narrow stools suggest irritation. Avoid dairy, caffeine, fried food. Continue probiotics, soft diet, banana, and buttermilk. You may need a colonoscopy or stool calprotectin test if no improvement.

Take a Fecal Calprotectin Test Test
