Respected doctors, my dad took a blood sugar test on 25th July in the afternoon after having lunch. It showed his blood sugar level as 289. To confirm, we took the blood test the next day, 26th July, which showed a completely different sugar level of 125 fasting and 153 after breakfast. After seeing both reports, the diabetologist advised my dad to exercise and walk more. Which sugar level is accurate? The first one taken after lunch or the second report taken in the morning, fasting and after food? Currently, he has not been prescribed any medicines and is taking the morning reading as the accurate one.

The first sugar test (289) after lunch is not reliable it varies based on meal. Fasting (125) and post breakfast (153) are more accurate and indicate prediabetes. Lifestyle changes are correct. Repeat HbA1c to get average 3 month sugar status. No meds needed if lifestyle is maintained.

Take a HbA1c Test (Hemoglobin A1c) Test
