Hello Doctor, I had sex with a sex worker 35 days ago. I have had symptoms for the past month, such as nail discoloration, throat dryness for three weeks, cold, constant sneezing, and penis burning sensation. Is it HIV? I tested with an antibody test today, after 5 weeks of exposure, and it was non-reactive. Please advise how accurate the antibody test is after 5 weeks?

Your HIV test after 5 weeks being negative is a strong sign that youre likely not infected. However, for complete accuracy, its best to retest at 12 weeks. Your symptoms are not specific to HIV and could be related to stress or a general viral infection. No need to panic just do a follow-up test at 3 months.

View allI was accidentally injected with a potentially contaminated needle at a clinic. Concerned about HIV risk, I went for an HIV combo test 56 days after the incident at my nearest ICTC centre. The test result was negative. The ICTC staff mentioned that if there is direct exposure to HIV infected blood, it can show in the test after 28 days. I would like a specialist advice regarding: Should I get tested again? Which test is recommended now? Is 56 days sufficient to conclude that I am HIV negative? I have heard that HIV transmitted via sexual contact may take longer to appear in blood tests compared to needle exposure, is this true?

Sir, I have a doubt regarding HIV testing. If a person tests negative at 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or even 10 years after exposure, but later tests positive, is it true that this depends on the immune system? Does this mean there is no conclusive test for HIV?

I had sexual contact with an HIV positive woman. I took an HIV RNA PCR test 28 days after exposure, and the result was not detected. However, I am experiencing symptoms such as rashes, joint pain, fever, and bumps on my tongue.
