Hello Doctor, my mother is 54 years old. For the past few days, her left ankle has been swelling whenever she walks or does basic physical activity like climbing stairs. She had a whole body checkup 6 months ago, which was normal. Two months back, she also had basic blood tests (CBC, renal function, liver function, sugar tests), and her sugar and uric acid were borderline. Her current uric acid level is 5.80. Could the ankle swelling be due to uric acid, or might there be another cause? I have attached the reports for your review.

Mild swelling in one ankle after activity could be due to strain, early arthritis, or borderline uric acid levels. A level of 5.80 is not high enough alone to cause gout but can add to joint discomfort. To assess better, get an Xray of the Ankle and repeat Uric Acid Test. Also, check for any local injury or vein issues.

She is normally a strong person but I heard her cry so I can understand she is having a lot of difficulty. Can someone please suggest what should we do? In this corona time how can we get her treated? I have attached her blood report for reference. Thank you in advance for your guidance.

I previously had intense pain in my legs and joints. After consulting a doctor, I was diagnosed with high uric acid (7). I took medicines regularly for a month and repeated the test today, the result is 6.1, but I understand it should be below 6. Could you please suggest what medicines may be needed and what foods should be included or avoided to help maintain uric acid levels? The patient is also taking medicines for diabetes.
