Hello Doctor, my reports consistently show normocytic, mildly hypochromic RBCs, and I am concerned about what this means. I am pregnant and currently taking iron supplements and bifolate tablets, yet the results have not changed. Does mildly hypochromic indicate anemia, and should I consider getting a thalassemia test done?

Mild hypochromia suggests low iron levels despite treatment. This can be common in pregnancy. A thalassemia screen is reasonable to rule out carrier status.
