Question
I am taking tablets for thyroid of 25 mcg. My T3 and T4 are normal but my TSH is increased to 8.71. Last month, I suffered from dengue, so my doctor suggested taking 50 mcg. I have a doubt that my TSH may have increased because of dengue. Should I take 50 mcg or not?

A TSH of 8.71 indicates mild hypothyroidism even if T3 and T4 are normal. Dengue can temporarily affect thyroid levels, but if TSH remains high, dose adjustment may be needed. As your doctor advised, you can start 50 mcg Thyroxine and recheck thyroid levels after 6-8 weeks. Monitor for symptoms like weakness, hair fall, or weight gain. You can book a Thyroid Profile test after 6-8 weeks to check dose effectiveness.
