I have undergone some tests for my kidneys and am seeking expert opinion. The right kidney measures 8.5 x 5.1 cm, and the left kidney measures 12.6 x 6.8 cm. The lab report states a shrunken right kidney with a scarred surface and pelviectasis, suggestive of sequelae of a prior infection. The left kidney shows a small extra renal pelvis and increased post void residual urine volume of 85 cc?

Shrunken kidney suggests chronic damage; residual urine may indicate incomplete bladder emptying. A urologist should evaluate for function and obstruction. Regular follow up is advised.
Dr. Hema Suggests...
Take a Creatinine Test Test or Take a eGFR Test (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) Test

My father is 60 years old and he was diagnosed with low grade non muscle invasive bladder cancer 2 years ago. He was treated with mitomycin 40 for 6 weeks and since then there has been no recurrence. Initially he had checkups every 3 months for 1 year, then every 6 months, and now he has been advised to come for follow up once a year. Each time the doctor asked us to bring a serum creatinine test report before cystoscopy. During his last checkup his creatinine was 1.31 mg per dl but there was no recurrence of the tumor. Since then I have put him on a low salt diet and ensured he stays hydrated. Today, we tested his blood again and the results are creatinine 1.16 mg per dl, serum urea 24 mg per dl, potassium 3.9 mEq per l, sodium 133, and hemoglobin 13.6. Should we be worried and what should be our next step?
