Question
I recently tested positive for methadone, but I have never taken it. It was detected in both my urine and mouth swab on different days. The mouth swab was retested to check for a false positive, and it was still positive. My boyfriend is currently on methadone and receives his dose daily at the clinic, but he cannot take it out, and I cannot go into the clinic. Is it possible for methadone to be transferred to me in any way?

Methadone is not transmissible in significant amounts via saliva or skin. False positives can occur due to cross reactive substances. You may request a GC MS confirmatory test. Unintentional transfer via shared items is extremely rare. If confirmed positive again, revisit all medications and foods consumed.
