Question

I recently went for a blood test, and my results were: TSH 143.67 mIU/L, T3 70 ng/dL, and T4 4.8 microgram/dL. On the advice of my family doctor, I repeated the test because there is no history of thyroid issues in my family. The second test showed: T3 1.8 nmol/L, T4 65.7 nmol/L, and TSH 58.6 mIU/L. I am concerned about why the results vary so much. Should I continue consulting my general physician, or should I see a specialist? I am experiencing all the thyroid related symptoms as explained by my doctor. Kindly advise.

Your thyroid reports clearly show hypothyroidism high TSH and low T3/T4. The value variation is due to lab unit differences but confirms the same diagnosis. You can begin treatment under your general physician or see an endocrinologist for expert guidance. Repeat thyroid tests in 6 to 8 weeks to monitor.
