I'm really worried because over the past few days, I've been going through some serious shortness of breath, especially in the evenings. There's also this discomfort when I'm breathing, and I hear this sound coming from my chest that feels like congestion. Can you help me understand what's going on and if I should be taking any medication for it?

I've been smoking for almost 15 years but quit recently because I've been dealing with frequent coughs and colds. I'm worried about what damage smoking might have done to my lungs. I'm hoping to breathe more easily and be free of this cough. What should I do to help with this situation?
