Question

I've been dealing with GERD for 21 years and take pantoprazole DSR every morning. Even after lifestyle changes, I still get reflux. Would surgery be a permanent solution for this or are there other options I should consider?

While surgery, like Nissen fundoplication, can significantly improve or even eliminate GERD symptoms, it's not a guaranteed permanent cure and is typically considered a last resort after other treatments have failed. Other options, including medication adjustments, additional testing, and even exploring alternative therapies, should be considered before surgery.
