My mother had a fever 5 days ago. She was tested for viral fever, which was negative. Her fever subsided in 3 days, but her platelet count has been dropping daily: Day 1: WBC 1800, Platelets 1.9 lakh Day 2: WBC 3000, Platelets 1.37 lakh Day 3: WBC 3900, Platelets 1.11 lakh Today: WBC 4800, Platelets 0.84 lakh Her WBC is now normal, but the platelet count continues to decrease. She received an injection of Tazira Lyo 4.5 mg today. Should we admit her to the hospital? What action should we take?

Your mothers platelet count has dropped from 1.9 lakh to 0.84 lakh, which is concerning. This can happen after viral fevers like dengue or chikungunya, or due to medications. If she shows any bleeding, dizziness, or confusion, she should be admitted immediately. Even if she is stable now, its safest to monitor her in a hospital if the count drops below 0.75 lakh. Continue CBC monitoring twice daily, and consult your doctor again today.
Dr. Bhanu Suggests...
Take a CBC Test (Complete Blood Count) Test or Take a Dengue IgM - Elisa Test
