My report states that HIV 2 can be slow progressors to AIDS. I did an RTPCR test after 6 years of exposure, and the result was nondetected. However, the report notes that if the viral load is below 100 copies, the result may still come as non detected. My question is, if I had been infected with HIV 2 six years ago and have not taken any medication, could the viral load still be below 100 copies after six years due to slow progression?

HIV 2 is slow progressing but RTPCR negative after 6 years strongly rules out infection. A viral load less than 100 is extremely rare after 6 years without treatment. For reassurance, you can repeat 4th generation HIV Ag/Ab test. There is no clinical evidence supporting infection in your case, but retesting once will settle doubts.

I was accidentally injected with a potentially contaminated needle at a clinic. Concerned about HIV risk, I went for an HIV combo test 56 days after the incident at my nearest ICTC centre. The test result was negative. The ICTC staff mentioned that if there is direct exposure to HIV infected blood, it can show in the test after 28 days. I would like a specialist advice regarding: Should I get tested again? Which test is recommended now? Is 56 days sufficient to conclude that I am HIV negative? I have heard that HIV transmitted via sexual contact may take longer to appear in blood tests compared to needle exposure, is this true?
