A health care professional, preferably a phlebotomist collects a fluid sample by inserting a long nasal swab (nasopharyngeal swab) into your nostril and taking fluid from the back of your nose and then real time reverse transcription polymerase reaction is done.
Previously it was taking 3-4 days because of the sample load in a particular lab or diagnostic centre was too much. These days one gets it within max 2 days at the best from sample collection.
The COVID-19 RT-PCR test is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in upper and lower respiratory specimens.
