An extremely high ferritin level could indicate that you have a condition that causes your body to store too much iron.
In women of reproductive age, heavy periods and pregnancy are the most common causes of iron deficiency anemia as your body needs extra iron for your baby during pregnancy.
The elevated ferritin in these states reflects increased total body iron stores, however, due to certain reasons the iron must not be used by the body.
The symptoms of high and low ferritin levels are different from each other. Low levels of ferritin include fatigue, dizziness, and headache. High levels of ferritin may include heart palpitations and rapid heart beats.
One can lower ferritin levels by consuming dark-green leafy vegetables and a lean protein diet reduces serum ferritin concentrations and may benefit patients with chronic diseases, iron overload, and iron-induced oxidative stress.
