This test measures glucose levels in the urine to screen for prediabetes and diabetes types 1 and 2. The test is performed after 2 hours from the start of the last food intake. ‘Postprandial’ means after having a meal. High levels of glucose in the body can be a sign of an underlying health condition. You can develop serious complications if your glucose levels remain high and if it is left untreated. Most commonly, elevated glucose levels indicate diabetes. It’s crucial to monitor glucose levels if you are diagnosed with diabetes or have prediabetes symptoms such as excessive thirst, blurred vision, and fatigue.

How the urine sample is collected?

This test is performed on the urine sample. It is essential to avoid contamination of the urine sample with naturally present microorganisms on the skin. During urine collection, women should spread the outer lips of the vagina, and men should pull back the foreskin of the penis. Start peeing and let some of the urine flow before collecting 20 to 30 ml urine in the sterilized container provided from the lab.

Why is urine glucose post prandial done?

Your doctor may order this test if you have signs or symptoms of diabetes like excessive thirst, excessive urine frequency, excessive hunger, and weight loss. Also, this test is to monitor glucose levels in people with diabetes for assessing kidney damage and evaluate the effect of treatment in diabetics.
