Is 70 a high ALT level?

Doctor 1

Answered by 1 Apollo Doctors

Usually, the upper limit of ALT is 35 - 40 U/L. Moderate increase in ALT (such as 70 U/L) is seen in chronic hepatitis, chronic obstruction of bile ducts, heart damage, alcohol abuse, liver tumor, skeletal muscle damage. In any acute liver conditions, ALT is much more elevated.

For your ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase) level of 70, here are the key points to understand:

  1. Normal ALT Range: Typically, normal ALT values for adult males range from about 7 to 56 units per liter (U/L), but this can vary slightly depending on the lab.

  2. Interpretation of 70: A value of 70 is mildly elevated above the usual upper limit.

  3. Possible Causes: Mild elevation can be due to various reasons such as liver inflammation, fatty liver, medication effects, or other liver-related conditions.

  4. Next Steps: It is important to discuss this result with your healthcare provider who may recommend further evaluation or monitoring based on your overall health and symptoms.

  5. Lifestyle Considerations: Avoiding alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing other health conditions can help support liver health.

If you have any symptoms or other health concerns, please share them with your doctor for a comprehensive assessment.

I've been experiencing this constant mild irritation and pain in my upper abdomen, and I'm starting to get worried. It seems to get worse when I sit for long periods. What could be causing this discomfort, and should I be concerned?

I'm really concerned right now. A couple of months ago, I had typhoid, but everything seemed fine afterward. I did an ultrasound and all my tests came back normal, so I went back to my usual diet. But recently, after a weekend of drinking more alcohol than usual, I experienced a hangover that felt really strange. I went to the hospital, and while most of my liver function test results were normal, my bilirubin levels were highBilirubin Total was 2.2, Direct was 0.9, and Indirect was 1.3. The ultrasound showed nothing abnormal, though. My doctor prescribed some ursodeoxycholic acid tablets and anti-reflux meds, and suggested we repeat the liver function test after 15 days. I'm pretty worried about this whole situation. Could this be linked to my past typhoid, or did the alcohol play a bigger role? What should I be keeping an eye on? This is stressing me out.

I had an episode of vomiting with blood yesterday, and I'm a regular smoker and drinker. Could you help me understand why that might have happened and what kind of doctor I should reach out to?

Back pain from prolonged sitting is common. Shelcal 500 mg (Calcium and Vitamin D3) may help alleviate back pain by: 1. Supporting bone health 2. Relaxing muscles 3. Reducing muscle spasms However, consider the following: 1. Consult your doctor before starting any new supplements. 2. Shelcal 500 mg is primarily for calcium and vitamin D supplementation, not specifically for back pain relief. 3. Everyday intake may lead to excessive calcium consumption. Recommendation: 1. Consult an orthopedic specialist or physical therapist to address underlying causes of back pain. 2. Maintain good posture, take regular breaks, and stretch while sitting. 3. Consider exercises strengthening your core and back muscles. Discuss Shelcal 500 mg with your doctor, and follow their guidance.
