Can someone please explain if WBC (TLC) count rises only in bacterial infections, or can it also increase in viral infections?

Yes, WBC (TLC) can rise in both viral and bacterial infections. In viral infections, lymphocytes usually increase. In bacterial infections, neutrophils rise. CBC helps distinguish the likely cause.

View allHi, I am 5 months pregnant with my first baby. In my recent blood test, my platelet count has risen to 700,000, and my WBC is 11,200, which seems high. My doctor has advised me to do PT, APTT, INR, and Hb electrophoresis and to consult a hematologist. This is the first time my platelet count has been elevated, my last report was completely normal. Could this change be related to pregnancy? I am unsure how to proceed and would like guidance, as all my other reports are normal.

I got my blood test done today, and after receiving the report, I noticed that only my lymphocyte count and ESR are outside the reference range. My lymphocyte count is 48, and my ESR is 28. I would like to know if this is something to be concerned about or if I need to take any medication for it.

My 8 month old niece has had a persistent fever for the past 2 weeks. It normalizes when given antipyretics but recurs every 8 to 10 hours. She has a normal diet but sometimes skips meals. She has also vomited 2 to 3 times. A blood test report showed a high lymphocyte count of 58. She traveled about 400 km last week, although comfortably. Could this affect her condition? What could be the reason, and what do you suggest? Thank you in advance.
