He is 41 years old, and today we got his HbA1c test result, which is 7.1 percent. Does this mean he is diabetic? We are really worried. Should he start medication immediately, or is it possible to control it with diet and lifestyle changes? Please advise.

An HbA1c of 7.1 percent means he has diabetes. You can try diet control, walking, and weight control for a few weeks. If sugar stays high, doctor may start medicine. Avoid sweets, rice, potatoes, and fried food.

His fasting blood sugar is 256 and postprandial is 432. This was found during a routine checkup. All nearby doctors are fully booked, and the earliest appointment we could get is on the 4th. Is there anything we can do in the meantime?
