Hello doctor, my father recently had a sugar test. His fasting sugar level was 132 and 2 hour post sugar level was 95. Does he need to start medication? His blood picture is attached below.

Fasting sugar of 132 indicates diabetes, while a post meal sugar of 95 is normal. Sometimes, fasting can be high due to late night meals or early testing; repeat to confirm. Lifestyle changes with diet control, daily walking, and weight management should be started immediately. You can book an HbA1c test to assess average sugar levels over 3 months, which will guide if medication is needed. Share the report with your doctor to decide further treatment.

He is 41 years old, and today we got his HbA1c test result, which is 7.1 percent. Does this mean he is diabetic? We are really worried. Should he start medication immediately, or is it possible to control it with diet and lifestyle changes? Please advise.

My name is M. A. Shafique. I have been dealing with high blood pressure for the past 2 years. I was also previously hospitalized for fluid in the lungs and slow heart function, but I have recovered. Recently, I had a blood sugar test with the following results: Fasting blood sugar: 170 mg/dl Post lunch blood sugar: 281 mg/dl Could you please help me understand these results? Do they indicate diabetes?
