Hi, my friend, a 30 year old female, has a platelet count of 126,000, with no signs of infection. Is this normal? Should she undergo any additional tests to identify the underlying cause, and if so, which tests are recommended?

A platelet count of 126,000 is a little below normal, but if there are no signs of infection, bleeding, or illness, its usually not urgent. Sometimes, this can happen after a mild viral illness or due to vitamin deficiency. Its a good idea to repeat the CBC after 1 to 2 weeks, and if it stays low, more tests can be done to find the cause.

How to prepare and fast before a complete blood count test?

My recent routine blood test shows a platelet count of 130,000. As per my test report from August, it was 140,000. In the meantime, I had a slipped disc, which is now fine. Is the declining platelet count related to that, or could it be a sign of another problem? I have attached my hematology report for reference.
