How often does an incision hernia happen after laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and when do symptoms usually start showing up
Answered by 1 Apollo Doctors
Incisional hernias after laparoscopic gallbladder surgery (lap chole) are not very common, but they can occur. The risk is estimated to be between 0.02% to 3.6%. Symptoms usually show up within three to six months after surgery, but can appear later as well.

View allI had an appendectomy about a month ago and recently, for the past five days or so, I've been experiencing some pain in my right abdomen. It initially began after activities like running, but now it feels more localized on the right side. Is this something normal that happens after surgery, or do you think I should go back to the surgeon to get it checked out?
It is not uncommon to experience some pain and discomfort in the right abdomen after an appendectomy, especially during physical activities. However, if the pain has persisted for 5 days and is now localized to the right side of the abdomen, it is important to follow up with your surgeon for further evaluation. They may recommend pain relief medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen for relief.

I had a right side inguinal hernia mesh repair surgery 3 years ago and now I've developed a new hernia on the left side. I'm considering another mesh repair but I'm worried about hernia recurrence after mesh surgery. Does having mesh repair increase the chances of the hernia coming back compared to other types of repairs? What's the likelihood of recurrence with a second mesh surgery?
Second hernia mesh repair is commonly done and recurrence is not necessarily higher with mesh. The success rate is high when done properly.

I have a 1.5 cm gallstone and my surgeon recommended surgery to remove the gallbladder. Are there any other treatment options besides surgery I should consider? I'm a bit worried about going under the knife and want to explore alternatives if possible.
This condition may require clinical evaluation to determine the exact cause and treatment. Some cases can be managed conservatively, while others may need surgical intervention depending on size, symptoms, and severity. Regular follow-up is important to monitor progress.
