my wife has been diagnosed with gallbladder stones and she's been having stomach pain. is surgery the only option or are there other treatments we can try first? just worried about whether an operation is absolutely necessary
Gallstones that cause no symptoms, generally don't need any medical treatment. In certain cases (such as abdominal surgery for other conditions), doctors may remove your gallbladder if you are at high risk of complications of gallstones.

My dad is 65 and has COPD from smoking and exposure to harmful gases for 15 years. He also has a hernia we know COPD isn't curable, but is it safe for him to have hernia surgery now given his condition?
It's understandable to be concerned about hernia surgery in someone with COPD. While COPD itself isn't curable, a hernia surgery can be safe if the patient's lung function is within acceptable limits and proper management is in place.
