I had unprotected sex with an unknown partner 65 days ago. Today, I did an HIV 1 and 2 antibody test, which came back negative. I do not have any symptoms related to HIV, but I have had allergic throat irritation and acne problems for the past year. Am I safe from HIV, and is this test conclusive at this stage?

An HIV 1 and 2 antibody test done 65 days after exposure is usually reliable, as most people develop detectable antibodies by 6 to 8 weeks. Since your test is negative and you have no symptoms, it is reassuring. To be fully conclusive, a HIV antibody test can be repeated at 90 days for peace of mind. Throat irritation and acne are not related to HIV if they are ongoing from before.

View allHello Doctor, I had sex with a sex worker 35 days ago. I have had symptoms for the past month, such as nail discoloration, throat dryness for three weeks, cold, constant sneezing, and penis burning sensation. Is it HIV? I tested with an antibody test today, after 5 weeks of exposure, and it was non-reactive. Please advise how accurate the antibody test is after 5 weeks?
