I tore my ACL on July 11 but my lifestyle is pretty normal since I'm just a student do I really need surgery for this or can I manage without it

I'm really worried about my knee. I hurt it while walking and now I can't seem to stand up straight on just one knee. The pain is intense, like a shock every time I try to walk after the injury. I did see an orthopedist who just twisted my leg a bit and I felt better for a while, but once I got home, the pain came back even worse. It's like a sharp jerk in my knee whenever I move. I'm freaking out about whether this is serious or if I might even need surgery. The thing is, I'm not in a good financial position and I'm really scared about what this means for my life and career.
