I'm about to have open surgery for an inguinal scrotal hernia and I'm really worried about the pain during the operation will it be really bad? Also how long does this type of surgery usually take?

My 72-year-old dad is having hernia surgery on his left side since that's the more problematic side right now. The doctor plans to only operate on the left for now will the other side likely need surgery soon after, or can it be managed without another operation?
If your dad’s hernia surgery is successful on the left side, the right side may not necessarily require surgery soon. It will depend on how the left side heals and if the right side worsens over time.
