Ringworm can be frustrating and uncomfortable.
Understanding Ringworm
Ringworm, also known as dermatophytosis, is a fungal infection that affects the skin. It's highly contagious and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated surface.
Why Ringworm Keeps Coming Back
The recurrence of ringworm can be due to several factors:
- Incomplete treatment: If the treatment is not completed or is not effective, the fungus may not be fully eliminated, leading to recurrence.
- Contaminated environment: If the environment is not properly cleaned and disinfected, the fungus can survive and re-infect you.
- Weakened immune system: A weakened immune system can make you more susceptible to fungal infections, including ringworm.
- Skin-to-skin contact: Direct contact with an infected person or animal can spread the infection.

My wife has molluscum contagiosum with around 30-40 bumps on her chin. The dermatologist first recommended a 2-week zinc tablet course, but it didn't help. Now they're suggesting surgical removal. We're hesitant about surgery is there any other treatment option that might work, or is surgery the best way to go? They mentioned removing each bump and applying medication, but we're worried about scarring or side effects.
A dermat opinion is advised to the patient.

I've been using Tenovate GN and Brite cream for my face for about four years now. The problem is, whenever I stop using them, my skin darkens and I start getting pimples. I'm really worried about this. What could be going on with my skin, and is there a better way to handle it without relying on these creams?
Long-term use of topical steroids like Tenovate GN can lead to skin thinning, discoloration, and acne breakouts when discontinued abruptly. Brite cream is a combination of multiple ingredients that help with skin brightening. To address the darkening and pimples upon discontinuation, you can gradually taper off the use of Tenovate GN to prevent rebound effects. You can switch to a milder steroid cream like Hydrocortisone for a short period to help with the transition. For skin brightening, you can consider using products containing ingredients like Vitamin C, niacinamide, or kojic acid.
