I'm feeling something hairy-like deep down in my throat, and it's been going on for almost three months now. It makes me feel like I need to throw up or spit something out, but nothing actually comes out. This usually happens when I'm around dust or during a flu. I'm not pregnant, so I'm trying to figure out what's causing this sensation. Could you help me understand what's happening with my throat?

The symptoms you are describing could be due to post-nasal drip, which is a common condition where mucus accumulates in the back of your throat and can cause the sensation of something stuck or tickling in your throat. To help alleviate this discomfort, you can try using an over-the-counter antihistamine like Claritin (loratadine) once daily to reduce mucus production. Additionally, using a saline nasal spray like Ocean (sodium chloride) can help clear out any mucus in your nasal passages. If these symptoms persist, it would be advisable to consult with an ENT specialist for further evaluation and management.

My ENT specialist diagnosed me with grade 4 tonsillitis and recommended surgery. I'm worried is surgery really necessary at my age? Could there be any long-term issues if I delay or avoid it?

A Grade 4 tonsillectomy recommendation by your ENT specialist, especially if it's for recurrent tonsillitis, is often a serious consideration. While surgery might seem daunting, delaying or avoiding it could lead to persistent or severe complications, and it's crucial to have an open discussion with your doctor about your concerns.

I've noticed that I'm always dealing with one blocked nostril, and it's really odd because it only feels unblock while I'm taking a hot shower. It's not a runny nose or anything that feels like a cold. Could this be something I should be concerned about? Is there a reason why the steam or heat from the shower might be helping?

The persistent blockage of one nostril, except during hot showers, could be due to a deviated septum, nasal polyps, enlarged turbinate bones, or environmental allergies; consider consulting an ear, nose, and throat (ENT)

I've been on a course of Derinide AQ and Defza, and during the treatment, I got my sense of smell back. But now it's gone again, and sometimes there's this weird odor in my nose. It's been about 20 days using this nasal spray. Is there a permanent solution for this? Will I ever get my sense of smell back? What do you suggest?

It sounds like you may be experiencing a condition called anosmia, which is the partial or complete loss of the sense of smell. In some cases, medications like nasal sprays can affect the sense of smell. To help regain your sense of smell, you can try using a saline nasal spray to help clear your nasal passages. Additionally, you can use a steroid nasal spray like Flonase (fluticasone) to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages. It's important to follow up with your doctor to rule out any underlying causes of your loss of smell. In some cases, seeing an ENT specialist may be necessary for further evaluation and treatment.
