Question
I'm planning to donate blood and want to make sure everything is okay. I've never had sex, but there was this one time I accidentally used a syringe that had already been used, and it's been bothering me ever since. I'm thinking about getting an HIV test, but I'm a bit confused with all the types, like HIV 1 and HIV 2. Which one should I go for just to make sure I'm all clear? Is it safe to take this test? I'm feeling a bit anxious and could use some guidance.

To check your HIV status, you should undergo a 4th or 5th generation HIV combo test, also known as a HIV DUO or HIV TRIO test, which detects both HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies and p24 antigens, providing accurate results from 18-24 days post-exposure; this test is safe, confidential, and usually free at government-approved testing centers or hospitals.
